Web design process

Initial contact The first step is to understand the needs of your company in order to design, develop and deliver solutions that improve your operations, streamline workflow, improve financial performance and help you reach your business goals. This is usually achieved by a meeting or telephone conversation to discuss your requirements.

Select your domain name Choose a domain name that is easy to type, easy to remember and reflects your business. I will let you know whether it is available or not and establish email addresses and web hosting if required.

Create your brief Information design: we discuss the purpose and type of site and your intended audience. This leads to an appropriate selection of site content. Site design: we establish the overall site organization and structure.

Create the visual layout The design may be based upon your company logo and branding and any preferences you have for colour, style and so forth. Based upon your feedback, I will refine the design style accordingly and present you with an updated version. This iterative process of feedback and refinement will continue until you are completely satisfied with the final design.

Create the site Once the design work has been approved, the site will be coded. Regular updates will be presented to you by phone, email and on-screen examples so you can see the progress.

Publish the prototype site The prototype site is uploaded to my testing server, enabling you to satisfy yourself that it fulfills your requirements and works properly. You may allow your family, friends and employees to test the site. The site is also tested for compatibility using different Web browsers.

Publish the completed site Once both parties are completely satisfied the site is ready, the site is launched on your server.

Promote your site Inform your customers that you have a new website. Put your web address on your business cards, stationery and in your email signatures. With the web site finished to your satisfaction, I will then complete any post-development tasks you have requested, such as improving your ranking in search engines like Google, known as Search Engine Optimisation (SEO).

Manage your site Track statistics, assess customer satisfaction, keep testing, and make improvements where necessary.

Update your site Keep your site current; an out-of-date site looks unprofessional.
